Nashiki Shrine

Nestled quietly on the eastern side of the Kyoto Imperial Palace, Nashinoki Shrine enshrines Sanjo Sanetomi and his father Sanjo Sanemitsu, key figures of the Meiji Restoration.In spring, the surrounding area is adorned with beautiful yamabuki (Japanese rose) blossoms, while autumn brings vibrant bush clover flowers, earning the shrine the affectionate name “Hagi no Miya” (Shrine of Bush Clover).Just south of the main hall stands a sacred tree whose leaves are shaped like hearts, known as the “Tree of Love.” Believed to bring blessings for matchmaking, it is said that gently touching the tree while making a wish will help it come true, drawing many visitors throughout the year.Surrounded by lush greenery, the shrine’s main hall offers a serene setting for a traditional Shinto wedding ceremony, creating a timeless and deeply meaningful memory for the couple’s special day.
